Former University of Texas at San Antonio football player Jacob Graner has died at the age of 28. Graner, who played offensive line for the Roadrunners from 2016 through 2019, died Saturday at his home in Jasper, Georgia. His cause of death has not been disclosed.
Graner was a graduate of Dripping Springs High School before continuing his football career at UTSA. During his time with the Roadrunners, he appeared in 13 games. As a junior in 2018, he earned starts at right guard in victories over Texas State and UTEP. That season, he played in 11 games and made three starts. He returned for his senior season in 2019 and appeared in two games. Graner is survived by his wife, Natalie, and their two sons, Elijah and Mason. His parents and two siblings also survive him.
Family and friends will have an opportunity to pay their respects Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. ET at Roper Funeral Home in Jasper. Funeral services are scheduled to follow at 6:30 p.m. A Catholic Mass will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Mountains. Rather than flowers, Graner’s family is accepting donations toward a college fund established for his children.
Tributes have also come from former teammates who remembered Graner for his personality and the relationships he formed during his years at UTSA. Former Roadrunners offensive tackle Josh Dunlop, who played alongside Graner from 2017 to 2019, described him as a joyful teammate and recalled spending time with him during film sessions and team travel. Dunlop specifically remembered Graner’s infectious laugh and offered his condolences to the family.
Another former UTSA offensive lineman, Dominic Pastucci, also shared memories of Graner. Pastucci, who played for the Roadrunners from 2017 through 2020, recalled being Graner’s roommate both in San Antonio and during the team’s road trips. As former teammates and loved ones mourn his unexpected passing, Graner is being remembered for the friendships, laughter, and lasting impact he shared with those around him.
